Hi all,
I'd like to thank everybody who has worked constructively towards
creating a European Pirate Party. It's been fun working with you and I
hope we can work together on European campaigns in the future. I know
I've certainly made new friends at the conferences in Barcelona and
Manchester
I'm saddened that it's come to this, especially given the hard work that
has gone in to it this year.
It's been an uphill struggle to keep PPUK in this process but I no
longer have the support of my party leadership, and I really do
understand their reasoning for withdrawal. I have tried to be optimistic
and I still see lots of potential for a PPEU but at the end of the day
we are here to get things done. This process obviously has many flaws
and if it cannot maintain the confidence of the parties involved then
those parties shouldn't continue.
I hope, for the sake of the Pirate movement in Europe, that people will
reflect on what's happened and try and make things work properly. The
egos, obsession with procedure, questionable authority of delegates and
general fucking around need to be left behind. This is not student
politics, it's serious and it should be treated as such.
If I may make a parting suggestion, the parties involved should each
identify what they want PPEU to be and do and distribute that
information. Identifying the stance of each party (and in some cases,
delegate) on an issue-by-issue basis clearly isn't working and is
leading to an adversarial process.
I'll still be following these lists and the European movement as a whole
as more of an observer but If anybody would like my input or would just
like to discuss an issue with me then feel free to shoot me an e-mail,
or a tweet, or a phone call etc.
Cheers,
Jack Allnutt, PPUK
