Dear all,
as you may know, our next preparatory meeting will take place in Rome an 17 and 18 November on the topic of our common election campaign. In order to help PP Italy prepare, it is probably useful for us to collect some thoughts on what we expect of this conference and how it should be structured.
Here is my idea:
I think it would make sense for us to do a speakers' conference in Rome. Everybody may turn in a topic of interest on which they wish to give a short presentation, let's say three weeks before the conference. These talks should include a specific recommendation on some aspect of our election campaign (examples could be "A common media strategy for the EU elections", "Let's start a European Citizens' Initiative as part of our election campaign!", "election campaigning on the streets" "How to get young people to vote", or even "How to elect a candidate list in a short time with direct democratic means"). This way, we can exchange best practices on things that national Pirate Parties have successfully done in past elections, and discuss how to use this knowledge for our EU campaign.
At the same time as the prepared talks and workshops, there should be a room for Open Spaces or a Barcamp, where people can get together spontaneously, to start working collaboratively on specific campaign projects.
Also, we should discuss whether we wish to make decisions through delegate votes at this conference or simply start working on campaign projects with everyone who is willing to participate. I would prefer the latter but wonder whether this is feasible. I think that our ideas on this question influence also how big a venue PP Italy needs to find, as I think a conference where everybody can present topics and work on projects would draw more people than one with formal delegates who vote on campaign questions.
Please let me know what you think and whether other people/groups have already given thought to the structure of the Rome conference.
Thanks,
Julia
