For every new person who starts to ask questions about digital rights, that’s a win. For every new person who stands up and gets involved, that’s a victory

Keep the internet open and free.

We need your help. Big time.
The Copyright Industry is trying to kill the Pirate Party
We have now received a letter from the BPI telling us that we will be hearing from their solicitors in connection with the proxy.

Εικόνα We believe in freedom of expression, the right to share information and ideas without interference. Censorship is never the right answer. Censorship, in any form, interferes with crucial freedoms and rarely delivers on its aims. Censorship's only effect is to hide underlying problems or pretend they do not exist, rather than dealing with them directly. In the meantime, legitimate expression is curtailed.
If we do end up in court, it will give us an opportunity to present the argument that site blocking is not the answer and that blocking intermediaries is indefensible. If we continue down this route we will see irreparable harm done to search engines, service providers and many others.
It is going to cost a lot of money to deal with any legal action properly. After recent elections, our party conference and our ongoing work in all sorts of areas, we don't have vast reserves of cash to spend. You can see for yourself - our financial statements are online: 2011 Accounts and our 2012 accounts will be released next month.
If we face a legal challenge, and it seems likely that we will, we will need money. We will need to assemble a legal team that is capable of putting together a case that will not only keep the proxy in place, but also settle the issues surrounding the arbitrary censorship of the web.

This is a case we must win not just for the Party but for the principles at stake.

Εικόνα We are not the first to face such a challenge, but if it comes to a fight, we want to make sure we are the last. Please give what you can and we will give everything we have...
But it's not just this potential legal action that we need to fund. We can't stop working on these issues politically. Not to mention working to resolve so many of the other issues from government transparency, ensuring access to justice is affordable through to reforming the education system, keeping the NHS open to all and defeating the disastrous "snooper's charter".
Every one of us involved in the running of this party is a volunteer. We don't get paid for the work we do; in fact, we all spend money to be able to do what we do. And we need to keep working: we still need to fund elections, especially our European election campaign in 2014. So, if you want to keep this party afloat, and allow us to continue to stand for the things you stand for, please think about supporting us at a time where we face the possibility of extinction.
